I would invest in P.O.W.U.R. because there is a proven demand and market for recycled plastics, the education of such a field, and the creativity and innovation left up for future improvement and additions to my venture. There is room for growth and plastic recycling is not a niche market. Instead my venture fits a large population; it is applicable to almost every city that has polluted waterways and even polluted landscapes. Plastic is abundant and the sustainability conscious consumer is no longer a trend, rather it has evolved into a mindset for millions of people.
Another advantage in investing into POWUR lies in the diverse stakeholders and potential partners who have shown a keen interest in helping POWUR reach success. This network offers many opportunities for potential community partnerships and employment opportunities. My research has shown nonprofits, schools and institutions, and local businesses interested in collaborating with POWUR in different stages and steps of the venture. One being with the workshops and education aspect and another being the recycled product area. Surveying potential customers in both Allentown, PA, and Great Neck, NY has shown at minimum east coast community members having strong support of paying for recycled products made from plastic found from their communities.
My milestone goal for the venture in the coming future is to propose a feasibility study proving the practicality of my venture. I am confident that it will prove to be feasible. I see POWUR as combining meaningful work with a potential for business and economic growth. It can be financially feasible as seen with the costs required to sustain such a business but I still need to solidify options of where the initial grant money or funding for the machines would come from, as well as a steady income to pay employees who run and work the machines and workshops through the financial projections. Finding skilled individuals to safely and properly display how to use the machines is needed before workshops or products can be made. I have made great progress in assuring that there is an excess amount of plastic available (resource availability), and willingness and support of community members and environmental groups, organizations, and businesses for a venture like mine. After speaking to local partners, I am confident that my venture would be welcomed within the community and support would flood in from both consumers via the avenues of workshops and of purchasing the recycled plastic products.
In order to put the company over the top, a template would be necessary to outline the exact steps needed to be taken when implementing POWUR in one’s community. A fact sheet describing the plastic problem and why it is crucial to tackle now could be published across communities, raising awareness of the problem and stirring public support and word regarding solutions. Next, having a staff that can build the machines or at minimum have knowledge on how to work, run, and educate others on how to use the machine is key if the potential partners offer to collaborate with POWUR in the workshops. It is crucial to prove that human labor will be achieved in order to assure other stakeholders. A logical and attainable timeline on how long it will take to get the things done on this checklist is also key to prepare POWUR for success.
My venture is fueled by both the passion burning beneath and also by the attainable future laid out above. I am confident that my venture could become a reality with communities across the nation. A pilot program beginning here in the Lehigh valley could be just the start for a sustainable future for POWUR.
